| SoundWave |
|Initial Release||August 21, 2013|
|Discontinued||February 19, 2014|
The SoundWave was a music player by GameEx released on LittleBigPlanet 2.
The device was released on the 21st of August 2013, alongside the T-Games NeXT v1.7 (its one-year anniversary), and the GameExpo III v1.0.2, as well as the 'Solar' T-Games logo revamp. It was discontinued on the 19th of February 2014, to make space for 'future NeXT plans'.
Its previous, unreleased, version was originally intended to be released alongside the GameExpo II on the 9th of November, 2011, but was decided against due to unknown reasons. The current version was originally intended to be released alongside the GameExpo III on the 26th of July, 2013, but was also decided against due to unknown complications.
Although the SoundWave was not listed as an addition to the GameExpo line, the SoundWave closely resembled that of the GameExpo; it operated on a modified version of the GameExpo Classic's engine, its cartridges were compatible with the GameExpo III, it used the GameExpo Classic's boot-up and shutdown tunes, and used a design inspired by the GameExpo III.
The SoundWave also operated on tags identical to the GameExpo consoles, therefore its cartridges could be played on any GameExpo device.
The SoundWave II was a music player based on the GameExpo II hardware.
Even though it wasn't the second SoundWave, it was named SoundWave II to be published along side the GameExpo II. Unfortunately, the SoundWave II was never published; however, it is available to collect (along with its cartridge) as a T-Tokens reward for 350T.
The 'SoundWave' was, ironically, the successor to the 'SoundWave II' - and not the other way around. The 'SoundWave' used a modified version of the SoundWave II's engine, and had a design-layout similar to that of the SoundWave II. The SoundWave and SoundWave II were completely compatible with each other.
- August 21, 2013 - The SoundWave originally released
- August 23, 2013 - GameEx released 5 more skins for the SoundWave as a part of their 'Iris' Skin Set. This Included: Liquid Black, Dandy Yellow, Lime Green, Fluffy Pink, Crystal, and a re-branding of the original white design as Original.
- November 2013 - v1.1 released. v1.1 adds 'Shuffle' to the SoundWave.
- February 19, 2014 - SoundWave discontinued.
The SoundWave ran on a Standard-type engine called GameExM1, which was a modified version of the GameExpo Classic's engine, GameEx1.
It was originally announced by GameEx that the SoundWave would be discontinued on the 21st of August 2014, a year after being released. However, due to the SoundWave being related to the GameExpo, on the 2nd of January, GameEx decided to push forward the date to the 26th of June 2014 - GameExpo's 3rd birthday. It was at this time when GameEx announced that, unlike the GameExpo line or the NeXT line, but like the Quadratum, the SoundWave would be unavailable to the public after discontinuation.
Plans with the NeXT Generation would further push forward the date to the 26th of February 2014. Further plans would mean that the SoundWave was finally discontinued on the 19th of February 2014 - 183 days before originally planned (on the 21st of August 2014).
